In order to make the W key work properly for what you want to achieve, go to Preferences -> Audio -> Playback and Recording and change the value in the "Fade On Stop" field to "1" (or higher).

Also, if you just want to pause the playback and want the Now Time marker remain where it is, assign "Play/Pause" to a desired key. In the video below, I assigned it to E. See how the W key and E key work differently.

I'm afraid you cannot.  I tried all of the options earlier today without success.  It takes two key presses - either concurrent as is the default ctl+space or in sequence e.g. space bar then w.  AFAIK, the command to "stop and rewind to Now Marker" is not available for binding.  I think it would be handy to have the option though.

I see this function as available here:

However, what Im asking is, if I can have 2 different keys assigned simultaneously, one that will "rewind" play-head to where now time marker was last placed, (e.g., "spacebar") and one to stop play-head and remain at that point (e.g. "enter" key), rather than having to hold shift/spacebar, or return to option menu and change to one or the other.

Cheers

You could achieve what you want if you use for:

"one that will "rewind" play-head to where now time marker was last placed" = key "O" (as seen in my pic) or any other key.

"one to stop play-head and remain at that point" = space bar (uncheck "On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker" under TV > Options)

Alrighty then, looks I can do something with these 2 options for getting there, Ill scour the shortcut list to find unassigned shortcut keys I could use,  I kinda like the W and E option way, and/or having 2 keys side by side.
(Just to note shortcut listing indicates, "E" is a shortcut key to enable and disable playlists)

Thanks all for the tips,
Cheers

Hi Klaus, I may be mistaken but I think the OP is wanting the ability to have both choices available with "one" key stroke at all times.  One to stop in place and one to stop and rewind to Now Marker.  As I stated, it doesn't look possible to do this.  I assume the option your referring to in the screen capture is this one?

However, when assigned, it simply toggles the On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker selection under Options in TV.  This means you still have 2 key presses (albeit not simultaneously) to change the placement of the Now Marker when the transport is stopped.  i.e. after starting Play, you can hit the hotkey (B in my pic) to place the Marker back where it was when you pressed Play or press it again to keep it attached to the play "head" but you still have to hit the space bar to Stop.  The hotkey simply toggles the selection under Options which is a bit handier.

Hi fwrend, you are right, the function "Rewind to Now Marker on Stop" does indeed toggle "On Stop, Rewind to Now Marker" Option in TV.

In the screenshot I posted above I used the function "Stop with Now Marker".

I understood the OP's question that he wants the ability to use 2 keys (without modifiers like Shift, Ctrl) to:
1) "Rewind to Now Marker on Stop" and
2) "not Stop with Now Marker - just stop".

And to achieve the first function, bind a key to "Stop with Now Marker".

It's a bit misleading, but this is effectively the function "Rewind to Now Marker on Stop".

Im thinking if can I bind "pause" function (as I tried using Sonar transport module) to its own key, with TV Option  - On Stop, Return to Now Marker, checked, will effectively do what I want, pause, will stop with cursor, but now time remains where last marked marked, press pause again, and it resumes play at that point, spacebar, as set, returns to now marker.

Is that any different from what I suggested in post #11? The "Play/Pause" I assigned to the E key (via Preferences -> Customization -> Keyboard Shortcuts) is the same as the Pause button on the Transport module.

No, its essentially the same, Im just not using "w" key, just spacebar returns to now time, and as you set, "E" pauses, pressing "E" again resumes play, (your animation seemed to indicate pressing "space-bar" to resume play after "E"  or "W"), However, I note, in your option, "W" allows/causes now time to advance to where pressed, which may be desirable also.

Cheers.

Interesting, it does get confusing and I gotta quit thinking about it but, that said, I wanted to note that I don't think this is the intended behavior of "Fade on Stop" according to the manual and because this is a "fade" setting, know that your transport will not stop exactly where you stop depending on how many milliseconds you set it at.  IOW, it will continue on however milliseconds before is stops while it fades out the audio which IS it's intended behavior.

Auto fade when starting/stopping playback
SONAR makes it possible to render a smooth fade in/out whenever audio playback is interrupted. This can be useful to smooth out abrupt transitions while stopping and starting the transport rapidly and will reduce ear fatigue during long sessions.
The fade is only applied during playback and is ignored while recording or bouncing audio.
To configure the auto fade times
1.
Select Edit > Preferences to open the Preferences dialog box, then click Audio - Playback and Recording.

2.
Adjust the following options:

Fade On Start (milliseconds). When this option is set to a value greater than zero, starting playback will cause a gradual fade in of the audio for the specified duration. The valid range is 0–100000 and the default value is 0.

Fade On Stop (milliseconds). When this option is set to a value greater than zero, stopping playback will cause a gradual fade out of the audio for the specified duration. The valid range is 0–100000 and the default value is 0.

However, I do think the Pause hotkey is a good idea.  Thanks Tak!
