Hi...anyone else noticed the 'Max' Style Dial causing relatively loud crackling when processing relatively quite audio ?

Yesterday I had my eguitar di to interface. In prochannel i only had reverb with a lot of wet and dry signal. I was only brushing the strings and peak signal was way down but there was loud crackling (intermittent, not periodic). Disabled 'Max' Dial and crackling gone. Tried PC channel compressor to compare.....even cranked up no crackling!

Gut feeling...somehow seemed to me the internal algorithm causing 'errors' with the low input signal. I could obviously be totally wrong.....?!!?
