Hi,

Getting a lot of crashes when working with an existing project in Cakewalk since the latest update. Cakewalk just closes without warning - really quickly, bang and it's gone.

I can be performing any kind of task - this crash was caused by trying to freeze an instance of Halion Sonic:

Anyone else getting Cake shutting down with no error message or warning?

Mike.

Just had another crash whilst bouncing to track, but this time Cakewalk has reported the issue as MajorTom.vst (Stillwell compressor).

Have disabled all FX and was able to bounce to track.

Just concerned with Cakewalk crashing out and giving no message - happened a few times in front of a client.

Not much to go on there.  When you say "Latest update", are you meaning Windows update or Cakewalk update?

Not happening here (see signature for my configuration).

Have you tried updating you visual C++ runtimes - the file you're after is Visual Studio 2017 vc_redist.x64.exe

https://support.microsoft...ted-visual-c-downloads

You might want to see of it's a driver issue - make sure you're using the latest drivers for all of your hardware.

It could also be a plugin

Yes, I have experienced that too. But whatever's causing it is highly intermittent and does not produce a minidump, making it nearly impossible to troubleshoot.

If you have a project that consistently exhibits this behavior, you'll be a hero by providing it to Cakewalk for analysis. Based on my own experience I suspect it has something to do with interactions with plugins, but I do not know which ones, and have not been able to reproduce the behavior at will.

I think that Cake should be focusing on solving stability issues with third party plugs since CbB only include a basic set of plugs and all of us are relying on VST.

How stable was the previous version for you?  If much better, than you should roll back.

I can’t say I’ve experienced any problems with 3rd party VSTs to date and my miserly 111 all work fine. I would say the onus is on the plug-in developers to make sure their products work with the few available DAWs as the number of plug-ins out there would make it almost impossible for the DAW providers to assess them all. It’s the same with other 3rd party software designed for Windows. It’s not Microsoft’s responsibility to ensure compatibility but the 3rd party software developers’.

Sorry to go slightly off topic here, but does Cakewalk by Bandlab retain previous installers on your hard drive somewhere? I remember being able to find previous versions of Platinum if I needed to roll back, but I don't know where to look now.

After this last Cakewalk update, I had a similar crashing experience and then it wouldn't recognize my sound card so I re=installed the drivers and it worked.  This is the third time I had to reinstall the sound card drivers for my UMC204HD (two previous updates).  Somehow the new updates are re-setting my settings.  Guess I'm good now until the next update.

Unfortunately, the installers are automatically deleted.  You can save them if you know when and how.
