  • Does Bandlab version overwrite SPLAT?

Hi Guys,

I've been holding off updating SPLAT to the bandlab version as I use it for work and didn't want to risk any issues when I had a stable version. Before I do so, I just wanted to check that the Bandlab version will leave my current version of SPLAT intact just in case.

I have attempted to search to confirm either way, and it may be the search terms I'm using, but I couldn't find a definite confirmation.

I also came across a post during my search that implied the Bandlab version would only install on the C: drive. As I have a small SSD for my OS and have Sonar installed on another drive (with samples on yet another drive and projects on yet further drives), not being able to select an install path is also an issue for me.

Thanks in advance for your help!

No. It shares some common files though.

Thanks Bapu, that's a great help. Any idea about the installation path?

Default path is c:\program files\cakewalk\cakewalk core. No overlap with SONAR. The shared components are mostly in c:\program files\cakewalk\vstplugins and c:\program files\cakewalk\shared ____. Cakewalk and SONAR can coexist without any problems whatsoever.

Thanks bitflipper, what I'm trying to find out is - as I do not have room and do not wish to install it on the C: drive, is it possible to install it on another drive?

The first version of CbB had limited install options, however; subsequent versions use an installer similar to SONAR. Just like SONAR, CbB may be installed anywhere on the PC. Keep in mind, if a prior Cakewalk DAW installation exists on the machine some install options are set. For example, "Shared Folders" containing DX plug-ins, PC modules and utilities such as the Plug-in manager and VST scanner are used by all installs. The default VST folder definition is shared too. Although each Cakewalk DAW has a separate folder in "Cakewalk Content" there is one path to "Cakewalk Content."

That is the neat part for me.  If I have an issue, I immediately jump back to SPLAT and can at least continue working.  When all is well, Cakewalk by BL will open it too.  Works for me.
