Hey All,

I have Sonar Professional.  I would like to take an audio track (in this case a song) and drop the pitch 2 steps.
I cannot seem to find a way to do this?  Any thoughts?

Cheers, Mike

First save your file AS something like *pitch change*.  Select all the clips and go to *process* and *transpose*.  Sonar can do some very bizarre things to the pitches so you might have experiment and alter some of the notes afterwards.   This is also a good way to get some stochastic elements into your work BTW. Another possibility is to use melodyne.

Is your project all MIDI, All Audio, Some of both?

It sounds like you are asking about a full song mixed down to Audio that you want to change the pitch of.  If that is the case.  Use Melodyne

Don't expect miracles, but this is how you do it:

If you have all the individual tracks that go into output song, you can bet better results, but it will be more time consuming.

I use Autosnap for singular audio files.
open the inspector and check "Enable Stretching". you will find other options within the inspector to help you change as your needs specify.

Brian,

My project is all audio.  I have imported an audio file and it's about a 1/4 step flat.  I want to change the pitch to bring it in tune.

Melodyne will do it. I just tested on a stereo audio file three minutes long. After a couple whole steps away it gets to sounding pretty wacky but a half step sounded just fine so a quarter step should be fine. Just be sure the algorithm option is set to melodic, melodyne sometimes does the percussive initially especially with longer clips.

I find for most material, selecting it then choosing Process > Transpose gives the best fidelity.

But does transpose do 1/4 steps? ( not near my DAW)

Old versions of Sonar actual a pitch change and a time compress / expand

You said 2 steps originally - which is it? Also, do you need to change pitch without changing duration, or do you want duration to change with pitch, like tape varispeed?
