Hi guys,

I originally bought Sonar Professional and decided with the Liftime updates I would go with Platinum.  In the cakewalk app I have both listed and can install both which brings me to this question.

I use Platinum at home(Pro is still installed but not really used) and the other guitarist of my band is borrowing my laptop (which doesn't have sonar on it yet) and spare interface to do some demos.  Can I install Sonar Professional on that one and use Platinum on my desktop PC at home?
Can he only use it when I am not using SPLAT at home?
I don't know exactly how the licensing works with Sonar so am curious.

You purchased one license for SONAR Professional and upgraded it to Platinum. You may install either product on multiple PCs with the understanding that you may only use one instance of SONAR at a time.

Thanks Scook

Do you know if it stops a second person from opening it if it is already running? I want to be able to hand over the laptop to my band mate and trust that he will let me know when he is using it but I am concerned he may forget to ask before running it.  Whereas if it had a message saying it is already running then I'd be able to message him telling him to save his work and close it if I need it.  We have quite different work schedules/family commitments so I don't see it as being a common thing that we'd need it at the same time.

Cakewalk trusts that you will honor the license agreement. The program will work but Cakewalk can revoke your license if they determine it has been shared out.

Yeah it doesn't sound like it is worth the risk to be honest.  I'll just convince him to buy Sonar Artist. Pity there isn't something similar to what Origin/Steam does with games and inform you it is already running in another location.

Thanks!

No they don't know what your doing.. as Steve said it's a trust situation. You bought Professional and even if your not using it anymore by the licence agreement you cannot give it away or sell it.
Personally in the case of a band that's working on the same songs,, that's a pretty grey area about letting your friend use your set up.. I don't see anything wrong there myself, but Sonar is a small company and can certainly use all the paid up customers it can get.
