hi everybody,
i'm want to take one word in one vox track and add a (cheesy) delay. what i've done so far is, split the clip at the word i want to add the effect, however, i'm not sure what to do next.
when i right click the clip the drop-down menu says, INSERT EFFECT and PROCESS EFFECT.
i really don't want to insert the effect (delay) in the FX box then use automation to turn on the effect at that word then turn the effect off by bringing down the automation slider.
am i making any sense?

To insert an effect on a clip
Do one of the following:

Right-click the clip, choose Open Clip Effects Bin on the pop-up menu, then right-click the clip effects bin and choose the desired effect.


From the Browser, drag an effect onto the clip.


Open the Clip Inspector and show the Clip Effects section. Right-click the effects bin to select an effect, or drag an effect from the Browser.

The FX icon appears on the clip(s) after you insert the effect.

I typically add the FX in the FX bin and automate, edit it how I want it, then bounce it.
as mentioned above, there are a few ways of going about this. my advise is to try a few and go with what you find easiest, most productive.
may I make a suggestion? while destructive editing, always leave yourself the original/unprocessed clip.
this way if you bone head something, you always have your original clip to fall back on.
 
you may even find freezing the track an option as well. freezing will free up resources while still leaving you the original with its FX to make changes on the fly if needed by simply freezing/unfreezing.

For adding a delay throw on a single word in a vocal, try using an Aux track and automate the send. I've tried using the FX on the clip, and found that the Aux track technique works much better and results in a much smoother effect.
 
Here are the steps:
 
In the vocal track where you want the FX, click the + button in the Send window. Then click New Aux Track. This will place an aux track right underneath your vocal track. Name it Vocal Delay or whatever. Insert the delay plugin in the Aux track FX bin. Then go back to your vocal track and open the Automation window. Choose the Send to the new Aux track. Then just put a node where you want the delay to turn on (send full), and off (send off). Make sure the Input Echo button on the Aux track is on. Remember, all the automation is done on the vocal track itself, not the Aux track.
