What? Yes, really. A notepad module in the control bar. That would be INSANE.

Not exactly what you want - but try setting one of the 9 Custom Buttons on the Control Bar to Menu Items/Project/Info.

Project Info via Custom would be a good option to me if the Info window was floatable/dockable.  I thought maybe adding notepad or vim or similar to utilities, then a custom buttom.  Thwarted again as user added utility menu items don't appear to be able to be added to custom ... <sigh>

So now the original request gets my vote

think about all the things we could write in there! AT LEAST as much as we can write in the track notepads, that's for sure.

You can add any program you want to Sonar's Utility menu. See the link in my signature and look for SonarToolsEdit
There is also a free plugin called VStnotes.
There's also a paid for sticky notes software that will stick the note to whatever screen you have open.

Yes, of course you can.  But after you add something to the Utilities menu, you can't assign it to a Custom Module button.  Only the default Utility items are available to assign

Now I understand. Sorry. I know it's an extra mouse click. But you can also assign a keyboard shortcut, if important.

Accelerators can be assigned to Utilities menu items by adding an ampersand before a letter in the menu name. While not a single button, the tool is available as a hot key ALT+U+somekey. A program launched from the Utilities menu does not know the current project directory. If the intent is to store documents with the project, this would not be good.

As far as click count goes, I'm just trying to match the request as closely as possible.  For a notes solution to *really* work for me, it would need to be floatable and dockable in the multidock so the notes can be on a monitor different from what I'm making notes about.

A Floatable/dockable Info that can be assigned to a custom button would work really nice, I think
