+1 for iZotope's RX.
I use RX4 Advanced exclusively for editing - things like string squeaks, and various clicks and pops.
iZotope just keep making it better and better...

I have SoundForge 11 Pro and still use it, though no power user stuff here and never used it for CD burning.
(CD Architect was my primary "Red" burner for a long time, but Sony let that one slip away, so I moved to HOFA.)

Both RX and SoundForge are set up here to launch from Sonar's Utilities menu, which is a great way to edit from within Sonar...When it works, it's downright magical.
(Lately it's been working great, but RX and Sonar have been known to fight over the main audio driver...)

Goldwave was an early favorite, but I lost track of that one. The feature set for the price was outstanding.

I have a version of Soundforge that is likely 15 years old, it still works just fine.

I also have a more recent version of SoundForge on a different computer (both have a Win 10 operating system) and it also works fine.

The difference between the two programs other the being 10+ years apart for my uses is basically nothing.  They both have the same dated looking interface and work just fine.  This isn't like a DAW where innovation comes out every year nor does it need to.

Thanks all.  I have a lot of stuff still to download to get to the point that I can fire this PC up.

FWIW -  I splurged (I think).
I7 3.4 GHz
32 GB Ram
1 TB Solid State System Drive
3 3 TB storage drives (7200 RPM)
Rack Mount
After burner

It should be interesting to fire up.  This is far and away more than my old PC.

Soundforge comes in a cut down version called Studio which I believe is up to version 10. It sells for less than a $100 and works quite well, but is not 64-bit at last look. Wavelab has Elements which is approximately, again, at $100. I am unable to determine if it is 64-bit or not. I also don't know how much the Steinberg dongle is...

Hi,
The only knowledge with Soundforge I have is the demo ( which was one month full working if my memory is ok) and the lonely thing I could miss is the pencil with wich you could draw the soundwave, but like mentionned above,Sonar with the help of Izotope RX and some third parties stuff could normally in the hand of a skilled "sound-writer " with good ears and brain,be quite efficient to produce a top level soundtrack whether it is for video, game or music publishing..
It is my opinion and I'm in no way close to what a professionnal is.
All the best.
