plugins in X3 not in Platinum

When I open X3, it says I have 295 plugins. When I open Platinum, it says I only have 290. Two of them that I don't have in Platinum are ones that I use in X3, so they don't work in Platinum. How exactly do I scan the VST plugins? I know I go to Preferences. After that, not sure. Thanks!Greg..
