Plug-in manager issue

I discovered a strange issue with the plug-in manager of Sonar Platinum... I have Sonar installed on my studio PC as well as my studio laptop. My laptop has all of the VST plugins installed to its D: drive whereas my studio PC has them installed on the C: drive. If I export all of my plugin presets ..

OK I give up... CTRL+CLICK solo

Can someone succinctly explain how CTRL+CLICKing Solo buttons works? I'm talking about a project with MIDI tracks and audio. I lost all playback (despite bouncing meters in the ProChannel) with nothing muted and somehow got everything back, after some frustration, by CTRL+CLICKing.... something... ..
