Bank select unavailable for Generic instrument?

In Preferences / MIDI / Instruments, I set all 16 channels of one MIDI device to map to the instrument "Generic (Patches 0-127)" When I use Event Manager to insert a patch change in a MIDI Track, I cannot set the bank. Missing ASIO device after running updated Z3ta-2 in standalone mode.

If two Sonar projects are open can I record one into the other (using 3rd party routing).

I'm guessing no because I tried a couple tests of this but I want to be sure. What I am trying to do is have a project playing then record the output (through Voicemeeter) into the second project.
