sonar and roland r8 mk 2 drum machine

Hello,Has anyone on here used Sonar with the older Roland R8 Mk 2 drum machine? If so, how can I record the drum banks I want from the r8 into sonar? I tried recording on a midi track, but all I can record from the r8 are its raw drums. None of my edited drums from its drum banks are being recorded...
