Using keyboard for a split

If you want to use your keyboard for splitting a track, isn't it "Ctrl" held down and the "S"? It's not working now for me and I am not sure if its my program or if I am not hitting the right buttons. Has anyone else had it stop working or is there a way to switch int back?Many holiday thanks, James..
