gain staging making compression non existant?

Hi guys.A question for those that can get their heads around it.I've use gain staging (on most individual tracks) to set input levels before recording so that my total master fader will not clip. The main problem this is having is that most of my peaks are coming in pretty low eg: kick drum normally..

Synths No Longer Unfreeze and Tracks Disappear

That says it all. I always freeze midi synth tracks so I can unfreeze and edit them in the future. Since the latest update of SPlat, the freeze/unfreeze button is grayed out and will not operate. 2017.04 PRV Screenset - no longer dynamic tracks
