Inserting track template causes playback delay

inserting track template causes 1-2 sec playback delay. Try this: open a project with several tracks, after inserting the track template, hit play, hit stop, go back 1 bar or so - 2 sec delay in going back 1 bar. After that it will play. VST scan taking minutes instead of seconds?

When I open Sonar the VST scan now takes about 2 to 3 minutes, where it used to take 10 or 15 seconds. I have not added any new plugins or instruments; it just started happening one day.
