MASSIVE copies when using snip edit

Every time I use the scissors to edit, 100s of snippets are added to the track. Last time brought my project to a complete halt. Very embarrassing with the client looking over my shoulder while I delete gigs of trash.Any ideas how to stop this? tiaKing BurtonSonar X3d Asus mb i7 32g 1T Presonus Fire..
