How do I make it stop???

Recently upgraded to MC6 from MC4 where this was not a problem. Using Windows XP, when I record a midi track by playing my digital piano, then when playing back, the now time bar stops at the last event. But if in editing, I shorten the piece, the now time bar wants to continue to the original stopp..
