interface question

I have been using the lexicon alpha interface for all my recordings. However, i was in a pawn shop the other day and on impulse purchased the presonus tube pre (thingy muhgigger) I was wondering if I am supposed to run this unit thru my lexicon in order to record into my computer system? boost volume of a few notes in a track

Greetings. How do you select a section of a track and adjust the volume of that selection without affecting the entire track? Should be a sound curve that can be applied to a selection in here somewhere. Thanks!..

Help With Compression Settings

I'm currently still using Guitar Pro 2. I've finished 7 songs but now I'm wondering about the compression I used on mix down. I used the mix down preset, but now wonder if it was too much. Maybe 2.1 or 3.1 would be better. Also there 2 controls I don't understand. I'm not sitting in front of my lapt..
