Fear of upgrading from win8 to win8.1

Choppy audio on winXP laptop only playing DVDs

Upgrading my dinosaur/need PCI slots

Would like some advice on updating my dinosaur system. I'm still running Sonar 8.5, Win XP on an old Gigabyte mobo using an old AMD Opteron 165. Windows MIDI port limitations?

I just read in another thread that Windows has a 10 port limit for MIDI? It seems every piece of hardware has a USB port that carries both audio and MIDI. What are the practical implications when using Sonar if you have a lot of these devices?..

I've been shopping for Acronis and reading a mixed bag of reviews for 2015. Is 2015 as good as 2014?
