Changing Vocal Pitch?

I'm working on a short video and trying to use Sonar for pitch-shifting character voices. I tried Melodyne, but the results weren't very good, better when raising the pitch, but quite horrible when lowering it. Does anyone have any tips/tricks for this type of thing?..
