Getting clipping sounds after cropping recorded audio.

Is there a way to avoid getting clipping noises (pops, cracks, etc) when you crop recorded audio? It doesn't always happen to me, but sometimes, while recording new takes over mistakes, when I crop the audio I end up creating loud pops at the points where the cropping ends.
