How much to lower volume just before chorus

More than once I've read that you might want to gradually lower the volume at the end of a verse, so that raising it again at the chorus makes a bigger impact. Any suggestions as to how many dB is a good reduction for those last 4 bars or so before the chorus? Thanks in advance...
