Do you set GAIN before mixing?

I'm wondering how many people set the gain of each track before beginning the mixing process so that the instruments are all around the same loudness (lets say 0DB for the sake of this discussion)? I saw it in a tutorial and it seems like a great idea. Thoughts? Best practices? Thanks!..

Reamping guitar: Why am I getting screetching noise/feedback? Wrong positioning of amp?

Trying to reamp through Radial Reamp unit from my Line 6 Spider II amp. As soon as I place the mic (Shure SM57), getting noise/feedback and I am not to get the right sound. This feedback happens on stage, when mic gets close to the speakers. How do I avoid this? Thanks in advance...
