MA-15D Panning

How do I get my MA-15D monitors to play the sounds that are panned either left or right to come out that way. I recorded a piano part that I want to come out the left so I pan it left, but I can't figure out how to make my MA-15D take those pans and actually hear the piano get panned left.

Thanks

    Heya,

Be sure to use Outputs 1 + 2 from your SPS-66 and connect them into the RCA inputs on the MA-15Ds. Then connect the connector cable from the main MA-15 to the other one.

They're always in stereo mode, so there's no setting per se that needs to be made. For example, if you record a vocal into SONAR and pan it left and right you should hear it move.

    This is not the case?

Is what you are saying from the 1st sps-66 out goes to the left in line 2 of the speakers and 2nd out of sps to the right of the line 2 of the speakers? Hope that is understandable :p

If so what cable should I use? RCA or coaxial cable? I even have a subwoofer cable which looks identical.

Can you show me a picture of the cables I need to do this?
The cables I tried with 1/8 to 1/4 inch adapter to fit into sps-66 out are:

Here is the pictures of the back of the two hardwares (first one is the back of speaker and the second is the back and front of the SPS-66)

You can use an optical cable and connect the speakers and FA-66 digitally. Make sure to set SONAR/Windows/other hosts output to use Channels 5/6. This may sound better and will probably have less noise.

Otherwise I would use one of these.

I tried the optical and it Worked with panning! I only have one small problem with that. To hear in the MA15D Speakers, I set my master bus output to Spdif out Stereo and so my problem now is when I plug my headphones into the Headphone output on my SPS-66 FireWire, I don't get any sound. I know there is a volume control and headphone out on the speakers, but is this how it is supposed to be?

I searched up coaxial vs optical and lots of them are saying that coaxial has more rich and warmer sound. Is this true because at the back of my Ma15d speakers there is a coaxial input as you can see in the picture in my last post.

    Thanks Seth & Seth

Update: When I play any project using the optical cable, the lower frequencies such as kick and bass gets muddy and it is like it boosts the low frequencies. I tried putting the bass knob all the way down but still is muddy unlike when I listen through my headphones from the SPS-66 FireWire Headphone out. My other problem is that If I use the Spdof Stereo out for my master, I can't use the mix knob in my SPS-66 FireWire, and it is a really nice feature I always use.

IIRC using optical means you no longer get headphone control on the SPS. However, the MA-15D's have a headphone jack and volume control on the front of the main speaker, so you could just plug into that.

If you decide to go analogue out, you would use 1/4" cables from the SPS outputs 1+2 to the Line Inputs via RCA on the MA-15Ds. Then you would connect the main MA-15D to the left MA-15D with the included RCA-RCA cable.

    Thanks Seth

Right now I am switching my master bus out from Spdif out Stereo(MA-15D) to SPS66 1/2 Stereo and vice versa frequently because if I want to record I want to be able to use the Mix knob on the SPS-66 Hardware and When I want to use the Monitor Speakers I have to switch back.

I am still having the problem with how the MA-15D speakers have more low freq sound than normal. What I mean by that is when I play the project and use the headphone jack from the SPS-66 the bass/low freq is not so loud. Now when I transfer the headphone jack to the MA-15D speakers, I get more low/bass freq and what happens is that it makes the mix really muddy. I have used the Bass and Treble knobs on the monitor speaker, but it only helps a bit.

The MA-15Ds have a lot of bass buildup, IMHO. For them to sound best I would set the Bass knob to around 9 o'clock. It's not a problem, just how they are. As for headphones, I would use the headphone jack on the SPS. :-)

I was planning on using the speaker monitors for mixing, but is it going to be accurate with this bass build up? Yes I have my bass knob already set to around 9 o'clock. I am using the Optical out right now so if I use the SPS headphone jack and I want to listen with some other people using the monitor speakers, I would have to change the out of the master to Spdif stereo and vice versa. This can get really annoying to keep changing the master bus out.

Thanks for taking your time with this Seth!
