MAD I'M STUCK WITH X1 !

Just sayin.

I still like version 8.5, but it has been abandoned and the only way I can get a quick fix these days is to use the option to pay for the latest software and hope that Cakewalk will do a good job on what ever they put in the box.

I miss getting to see as many tracks and as much info as I could on the same display screen in v8.5.

It just seems slower to have to go looking for info that used to be available on one single screen.

I'm not really mad... I'm just trying my best to grin and bear it.

best regards,
mike

I'm starting to really like the grey *tattoo parlor* color scheme.

It reminds me of Pro Tools and Studio One.

I guess it just took a few months to grow on me.

I'm still madly in love with Sonar 5.2.

In fact I'm humping it right now.

    Mike,

hopefully Cakewalk will listen to you and others.  I do think there is probably more they can do to customize the interface.  That was one of SONAR non-X's strengths.  If enough people complain they might start adding some customization features back onto the new interface.  I doubt if that is their first priority (new sales always are), but it is certainly a way to sale it.  Kinda like the JD Wentworth commercials.  "It is your DAW, use it the way you want to."  I kinda like that - if any bakers are reading feel free to use it gratis.  You cant copyright satire, anyway.

    Thanks AT.

I am awfully glad that we made X1 the most successful version of SONAR ever.

Quickfix service is the single biggest improvement in the Cakewalk user experience that I have ever enjoyed.

It took a village to get that kind of service.

    all the very best,

Only because MS did such an awful job on Vista. Support for XP was originally supposed to have go away, but the Vista backlash was so strong it was extended initially until 2014.  When you completely screw up the scheduler (not calender - the core thread prioritizer) to the extent that network traffic can vary the speed of MP3 playback, you have a fundamental problem.

I'm not mad as such, just gobsmaked at such a poor buggy release in general, even after the patches and fixes. I love X1 features, use etc but at the moment a real work flow breaker for me with recent random crashes and behavioural glitches. Seriously looking at going back to 8.5.3 or even maybe Cubase 6 and start from scratch since I'm having to relearn X1 anyway. Enough is enough:-(

X1 really did change everything, for me anyway, shame really.

    Mike,

Have you installed the Darkside panup mod yet? Along with Sonar Plus?

If you haven't, I think you would find X1 ALOT more to your liking if you do. Highly recomended.

    TOTALLY agree...

...and I would add their nice work success proves once and for all that those are highly requested/missing/needed features.... meaning they should be provided (BACK..!) by CAKEWALK themselves....!!!

They should have added improvements, but not taken away features....

I love the colors of panup's mod....but the fake dolby and fake attitude knobs freaked me out a bit.

Learning a new interface AND having fake knobs on there made me wonder just how many things I was looking at that weren't real.

As to the initiation of this thread, the solution seems to be that X1 requires dual monitors.

That said, I have found that just because my video card had both a vga and a digital out (which I have always thought was there for convenience), it was possible for me to span monitors.  Now I can see stuff.

I understand why you suggest 2 monitors. But that will not show me the additional tracks that were sacrificed by the new X1 GUI when it was designed to show big patches of grey instead of information. Those extra tracks that disappeared don't come back when you use a dual monitor system.

Here's my perspective on dual monitors:

I had to de evolve from a laptop to a desktop when the death of firewire on laptops occurred.

I've been stuck with a clunky old desktop for the past few years.

I'm looking forward to re evolving back to a laptop sometime soon.

I have multiple monitors and a few of my graphics and video systems but I'd rather not use more than a single hi res monitor on my DAW. I don't like the way multiple display monitors reflect or block all your sound.

On my AAW I never even had a display monitor... let alone 2... or 3.... or 4.

    best regards,
    mike
