MAJOR headache with Music Creator ... Help Please?

I purchased Music Creator 2 for my son. This past Sunday, I began the installation process. When I clicked Option-Midi Devices, Realtek showed up in the "Out" to highlight, but nothing showed up in the "In." Monday, I tried again and nothing! I tried the "Always Use MME," but there was not an "Always" option. There was a button that said MME and that's it. Tuesday, I assumed a driver was missing for my "In," so I purchased "Sound Blaster Live 24-bit External." This a.m. I installed it. Guess what? It showed up in the "Out," but again there was nothing to select for the "In." Does anyone know why I cannot get anything to show up in the "In?"

Thanks for your time.

I'm not sure if this is related to Music Creator, because I'm not familiar with that tool, but read this thread:

    http://www.cakewalk.com/forum/fb.asp?m=400367&key=MIDI%2Cport

(If the link doesn't work, the thread is called "Signal pass-through".)

In this thread, it is explained that there is basically no such thing as MIDI input port in HS; all MIDI input is mixed into a single stream. You can only filter the input channel.
