MAKE IT BY : Online Collaboration
This is an online collaboration (my first ever) with a cat named Sy Smith (aka Psykosoul). I asked him if I could put some vocals down to one of his tracks which he already had the title. I wrote the lyrics around the title and added a choppy guitar solo near the end. I don't know if I brought enough soul to it, but hey I tried. You can listen the final song @ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/8/toysteinmusic.htm Also, make sure you take a listen to Psykosoul http://www.soundclick.com/psykosoul.htm Thanks

Love that kitschy 70's disco feel, but I can do without those harsh cymbals that keep coming in every other bar. There's a nice Prince-style groove going on in there. Cool.

Hey Toy, Always thought I heard some Prince in your stuff, especially the vernerable "Whatever u Say," but on this you really let it shine. Interesting extension of what you are usual do (assuming that you have a "usual" style ). Sounds like the cymbols and hat's didn't survive the journey to mp3. Sy, Nice rhythm track, has a nice groove.

Yes the cymbals are much too dominant in the track, believe it or not they were even louder I tamed them a bit with some EQ. kitschy is a word I havent heard before, had to look that one up. Prince is alive and well in this groove! Thanks for the feedback Paul.

Yes, Prince has been a big influence for me & for Psykosoul - in fact we met at prince.org - As for the song, its definitely something different than what I usually do or even the direction I'm currently going in. For Psykosoul it's an everyday thing. I basically had a mastered / completed track to put my stuff over, so the cymbals and hats being as loud as they were, really didn't survive that well. Thanks for the listen ed!

I don't think I'm going to be doing another collaboration anytime soon, have too much trouble finishing / finding the time to do my own stuff. It was fun and really dig psykosouls grooves. thanks fot the listenin. :-)

I know you didn't have much control over the backing track, so I won't comment on that. However, you did a fine job on the lyrics and vocals. Dude, you can really sing! When I heard this, I thought, "Oh, yeah, the guy who did the song about cars!" I remember that one! Anyway, nice work, Toy.

Thanks Charley The lyrics came pretty quick, but I did have a hard time with the vocal melodies. It's all rather one toned so I used a lot of harmonies. I'm flattered that you remember Race Cars. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi, Toy', This track is kind of suggestive of Raspberry Beret, isn't it? At least the changes and melody in the verse. Plus the track's a little bit like it in those sections. I liked your vocals. They could've been more up front, for my tastes. M

When I was writing the lyrics and putting down the vocal melody i couldn't help but think about that song. Now, if you put both songs side by side we have something totally different, but there is definitely a similarity (at least in the verse) - thanks for the listen
