M-Audio 1010LT

I use the above mentioned sound card, I am wondering if anyone else out there does too? I have some BX5's (monitors) coming in and I am curious as to what I am going to do when I want to use headphones...You see, with my current PC speakers plugged into the Out1/2 (Monitor Mains) I can simply use the headphone jack on the pC speakers, but the new monitors don't have this jack....and since they will be plugged into the Out1/2 (Monitor) any headphone amp I get will be plugged into something like Out3/4 which does NOT act as a monitor, meaning not all sounds come through this channel...and during regular PC use, like say iTunes or Media Player only comes out Out1/2 not to any other channels, rendering me headphoneless for those programs and regular PC sounds....SAMSON C-QUE 8 FOUR CHANNEL HEADPHONE AMPLIFIER has an option to link through it before the speakers but I wonder what passing through something like that would do for the sound....

One option is to hook up an intermediate device, such as the Samson C-Control (about $100.), which will let you control your speakers as well as headphones. It adds other capabilities which may or may not be helpful for your situation.

I do the same thing with my setup. I run card out/headphone distribution/power amp/speakers. Make and model don't matter. But I do have about 3 grand in that part of my studio alone....................JDW

I too use the 1010LT. But in my case I have the outputs from the Delta feeding into a Behringer mixer. I use the main output of the mixer to power my BX8s, and the "control room outs" to feed a second set of Creative Aspire speakers. I use the phono jack on the Creative volume control. Sometimes I just capture the cable feeding the Aspire speakers.

So, what I am gathering, I need not worry about passing through something like the Samson C Control, as far as signal purity...? I was hoping to go right from the card to the speakers...but is passing through something my only option?

What are you talking about? The Samson C? I was hoping for info from other 1010lt users, with specifics...I cannot decipher your post.....

I have the Delta 1010LT card my friend.

Use output 1-2 for your headphone amp and output 3-4 to your monitor amp.
At least that was what I was told for best results.

Otherwise output 1-2 to a headphone amp with a thru option therefor every thing is monitored the same . I guess the sound degradation is determinate of your headphone ame thru. But then again if you were monitoring thru your computer speakers before, it wont be any worse than that.

I see, so do you get regular program sounds through 3/4? Like Media Player or Windows sounds?

PC speakers were pretty good actually, I sell them short by calling them PC speakers, but they aren't true monitors, now I have the BX5's so I want to do it right.

I use Delta 1010LT too and in my case, I have an amp connected to my 1/2 Output and the amp is equipped with a headphone out. I think you should either get yourself an amp with integrated headphone out, or else buy a headphone amp which should give you a very good resolution for monitoring.

I am happy with what I have now, but soon i intend to acquire a headphone amp. I wonder if you get a good resolution when you use the headphone out of your PC speakers!! A good resolution is essential when you are doing monitoring work.

The thing with getting another amp is that I got speakers that have their own amp - each speaker is bi-amped, each one plugs into an outlet....
I get horrible resolution through my pc speakers, but thats why i upgraded....
