M-Audio Bx8a Mod to reduce stress and ear fatigue - Headache Deflectors!
I just got these monitors the other day, and while I like them a lot so far, the reviews are accurate.... the tweeters are pretty harsh. After blocking them for a moment with my hands I got an idea. Haha, I used a piece of cardboard from a mac & cheese box to block half the tweeters (from listening position) and deflect them kinda straight up. It actually works well, I can still hear them but it's not killing me anymore! It's ugly but hey... it's all about the sound not the looks! plus it also blocks that bright stupid blue LED!

I put tissue paper over the tweeters of my NS10's as was highly recommended by many engineers in my day. Will this impact the new name of your studio? :) Rimshot

nice, however, I read in Sound on Sound that to enable the correct sonic dispersion, you should use a piece of cardboard from a bang and olufson box

That's funny guys.... but I think I'll stick with the name I had. Daryl - I didn't see that article, I must have missed it while reading articles on how to dampen floor toms with paper towels and duct tape.

LOL...Chuck, you know I have never had this problem with my Bx8s but maybe I'm half deaf:)... In my setup the monitors are sitting up a few inches and about 3ft away. The tweeters are not firing directly into my ears.

is this happening with commercial sources too? My bx5a's sound very decent on the top end.

Yeah it is, actually it's moreso with commercial mixes in many cases. It may not be the case with the bx5a's but I definitely find these harsh and have found many reviews that back that up... this simple mod seems to really help actually.
