M-Audio Delta 1010 --- Can I run 2 of them?

Can you connect 2 of the M-Audio 1010 units to one computer to get 16 analog inputs? Any better ideas?

yes you can .. works like charm.

ps: and the new drivers sync up via the PCI bus, so no need to
word clock 'em .. wasn't always that way ;-) .. you will want to
enable the "multi-sync" option on the M-audio dialog.
pps: just so you know .. this is not the case with protools m-powered .. they
    just support one M-audio device.

Heck.. I run 3 and get 24 ins and outs... and yes.. dont use the BNC word clock connection, use the multi sync mode and let the drivers do the work.

Wasn't there a HUUGE thread on Sound On Sound about problems with multiple 1010's? But maybe that's been solved by new drivers?

Exaclty what the others here said, it works perfectly. I plan on getting another myself unless m-audio comes out with something more impressive. This is solid renoun audio interface, so it might be a while hehe ...

I wonder what using a Delta 1010 and say something with XLR like a Firepod together would benefit the engineer ... hmmm .. kinda hard to Mic a Drumset without a good analog mixer or several chanel pre-amp as it is with a Delta 1010, but I know several who do it several different ways and get fantastic sounds.

Delta 1010s are faster than any USB or Firewire interfaces anyway. PCIx and cards will always transfer data faster than USB

Dual pentium Xeon 3.20ghz, 2GB DDR2 RAM, Delta 1010, 960GB HD Space, Guitar & Bass Pod XT Pro, Rode NTK, Mindprint DTC, Sonar 3 - 5 BFD XFL, Battery 2, & tons of other plugins.Whisperroom, Mackie HR824 Studio Monitors, Keystation 49e.

It's a good thing that you don't need the word clock input for two to work together. From my experience, the D1010 word clock sync feature doesn't work. I've used a Lynx L22 work clock source to the D1010, and the D1010 continuously drifts in and out of sync. Everything else in my setup can sync to the Lynx word clock just fine.

I sent my D1010 to M-Audio for repair, but when I got it back, it didn't work any better.

Have any of you 1010 users tried Windows 64 and the 64 bit drivers for this setup?

I never saw that thread, but I'm running 2 Delta 1010's and it's smooth sailing here.

I thought you could run 4 of any Delta card together without any problems . As long as they are all running WDM ?

I have been running 2 for a few years now with zero problems in multi-card sync mode. Also running an emu 1212 card alongside and they seem to behave well together.

With the Delta cards, you can run multiple cards in both WDM and ASIO mode. This is because a singe driver takes care of all the cards.

The limitation with ASIO is that a host can only talk to one ASIO driver at a time. The single driver/multiple card model overcomes this problem.

That's very curious, I can lock mine (all three 1010s) to wordclock just fine, I can even use a varispeed-capable wordclock to get varispeed in sonar?!??

What i have found is that on my home studio computer, I CAN sync the deltas using the multi card driver mode (EPoX 9nda3J mobo) whereas when I take them to stick in the edit machine at work, giving us a total of 4 delta 1010s, I HAVE to use an SPDIF cable to sync them together (EPoX 9nda3+ mobo)
    weird huh?

So, would it be the same with two FW410 or one FW410 and one FW1814, that the driver take care of the sync?

Yes there was. It was started about 5 years ago though. The problem was solved about two years ago.
