M-Audio Delta 44 Buffer Settings

My Delta 44 buffer is set at 256 samples.  Is this pretty much standard?  I tried reducing it to 64, relaunched Sonar, ran a project and the CPU meter was in the red.  Thanks.

Mixing at 256 samples is fine, but if you are tracking/monitoring thru your software you would target 64 samples - but should be able to work at 128.

What does this project look like in number of plugins/synths and tracks? If the project is large, then maybe you could try freezing some tracks and bypassing some or all of the fx bins when you're tracking.

    Hi Dave,

It depends on what you've got running in that project.
ie: Several convolution reverbs can be a substantial load.
With lighter loads, you should be able to run at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size.

With an i7 CPU, you'd be able to run substantial loads at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size.
The i7 CPUs really kicked open the door to effectively work at ultra low latency.

It's a pretty large project (by my standards):

    30 Tracks
    Slate VCC on every track/bus
    4 Soft Synths
    Various Compressors (Not convolution), EQ's
    T-Racks Limiter

My OP was really just a status check asking if the CPU Usage meter behavior seemed typical.

    Thanks.

    Slate VCC on every track/bus

If you disable the Slate VCC instances... can you then run the project at a 64-sample ASIO buffer size?
