M-Audio Delta driver mess

So I got my new computer. The specs are good and everything is... well, mostly fine. I moved my good old Delta Audiphile 2496 soundcard to the new machine, but to my surprise, the newest driver on M-Audio's website is older than the driver I had on my old computer. The version I had there was 5.10.00.5065 (dated 12/17/2007), but now this version is accessible only to Vista 32-bit, whereas the newest XP driver is version 5.10.00.5057v3 (dated 04/05/2007). But on the info page for the newer, Vista only-version, I read: "Operating System(s): Windows Vista 32-Bit. Release Notes: Updated release installer for Windows Vista (32-Bit) and Windows XP SP2 (32-Bit)."

Perfectly clear, haa! This newer driver was recommended for XP as well in March, when I downloaded it to my old machine. But now I'm not sure if it's meant for XP or if it's Vista only. I would gladly stick to the older version if it weren't for some issues I have with certain songs using Kontakt 2. Since there were no issues - problems, that is - whith these songs on my old machine, I'd like to see if the newer driver would solve them on the new one. But I'm hesitating...

Which Delta driver versions do you folks use out there on your XP machines?

Regards,
wb

you need to use the latest driver that is written for your os. If you have xp, then you cant use the vista one and visa versa. you cant use a vista driver for an os that has xp

I use the V32_5.10.00.5065. I think it's the newest one.

I have Win XP SP2 and I use Audiophile 192. No problemos.

I have been using the .51 drivers for the last two years.
The most stable drivers since well, the ol' venerable .27's
which I had used for 4 years before that. I have been using
the same Delta 66 card for almost 8 years now,
    in three different DAW's.

Yeah me too, until I upgraded to RME. Tried all of the other versions, but the only stable crackle free ones were the .27's.

OK, so did I on my old machine. But now when I go to M-Audios page (here) and choose Delta 2496 – or any other Delta, for that matter – and then XP, I’ll end up with the 5057v3. This wasn’t the case in March: then I ended up with the 5065 and installed it on my old machine.

But if you have no problems using the 5065 with your Audiophile 192 and I didn’t have using it on my old machine with Audiophile 2496, then I might as well try it

If you don’t hear from me, it either worked or killed me.

    Thanks,

To be honest I have had nothing but trouble with M-audio drivers (for anything I have had by them), they easily write the worst drivers around.

The .5065 drivers were listed for Windows XP, and I had been running them on my last system, but I had "issues"--the control panel kept reverting to default settings, and I had to manually load my own settings each time I wanted to run Sonar or P5. And there was a BSOD or two. I guess a lot of people must have had "issues", because the next time I looked the .5057s were the most recent drivers listed for XP.
I have also had problems with the new MIDIsport drivers, which are also the same for Vista. I think I will stay away from anything M-Audio names "V32" for a while, even if it is listed for XP.
    Newer isn't always better.

Yes, they withdrew the 5065 drivers at some point, don't know when. I fell back to 5057v3 shortly after 5065 was released after I realised they wouldn't play back previously recorded projects at 24-bit, or 48 or 96KHz. Only ok at 44KHz 16-bit on my system. Plus the drivers didn't seem to remember any changes made to the default settings.

Well, kind of... and I'm alive as well (at least in the strictly biological sense of the word). But it didn't solve my problems with Kotankt 2, though, and for some strange reason the M-Audio Control panel doesn't always show when I want it to; neither in stand-alone mode from the tray nor from Sonar -> Options -> Audio -> Asio panel. I can see the program running in Task manager, but it's nowhere to be found. I have to close it an restart it several times before it - randomly and for no obvious reason - finally accepts to show up visually. So I guess I'll return to the 5057v3 driver. Pity: at least the new GUI in 6065 was much fancier.

PaulF: thank you for confirming the withdrawal of the 5065. Now I know that I wasn't delirious. Or at least that I wasn't necessarily delirious.

    Kind regards,

I used the latest driver on WINXP2 with a Delta RBUS (and an SI24). And with installing that driver there was no longer any midisupport. So I could not remote controll my SI24. (remote controller by Roland).
Anyone else with that same experience? I installed an earlier driver and MIDI was back again...
