M-Audio Fast Track USB interface....

I decided to order a Fast Track USB interface to go along with my new computer. I needed a way to get a mic and guitar inputs directly into the computer and this is just what I needed. I hooked it all up today and found that I also had to disconnect my studio amp and speakers from my computer and reconnect to the Fast Track to get rid of latency problems. So in effect it's actually a USB sound card with 24/48 capabilities !!
I tried it out and it works perfectly. I was able to record into Sonar X1 with just a few settings adjustments. It sounds great !! It works as advertised.

The Fast Track also came with a copy of Pro Tools SE which has given me lots of problems, errors, lock ups etc....that's okay, it makes me appreciate Sonar that much more.

Cool, Glad you got it working Wayne.  I had/have a fast track pro that I started with and used for a couple years without much trouble at all too.  Then I needed more inputs, and a little lower latency and upgraded.  I still have it though should I ever need it again.

As for the software.... yep each piece of gear seems to come with something...  I believe on discs I have albeton, pro tools se,  and 2 or 3 others I've never installed.  I also bought presonus studio one artist for $20 when it was on sale and have never installed that either. ?  I probably should check them out at some point but Sonar works well for me.

ADK Built DAW, W7, Sonar Platinum, Studio One Pro,Yamaha HS8's & HS8S  Presonus Studio/Live 24.4.2, A few decent mic pre's,  lots of mics, 57's,58 betas, Sm7b, LD Condensors, Small condensors, Senn 421's,  DI's,  Sans Amp, A few guitar amps etc. Guitars : Gib. LP, Epi. Lp, Dillion Tele, Ibanez beater, Ibanez Ergodyne 4 String bass, Mapex Mars series 6 pc. studio kit, cymbals and other sh*t.

The Fast Track that I got is perfect for me at this time. I only needed one input for guitar and another for the mic. It sits on top of my computer and matches perfectly. I wanted a small simple set up and this is perfect.

I took a fast track pro with me to SXSW this year and it was rock solid for the recordings I was doing. I also own a Profire 610. I whole heartily recommend M Audio interfaces, they've been good buys for me.

    Hi

This sounds like just what I am after for the same reasons. Please can you give me some idea of the latency you get and at what bit depth/freq? Ideally I'd like to play guitar with Amplitube in real time but realise on USB that might not be possible.

    Thanks very much.

My laptop is my only "amp" on the road. In standalone mode, I can set Amplitube's buffer to their minimal value 64, no problem. Waves' GTR will let me go down as low as 32.

That's at 24 Bit, 44 khz. The Fast Track won't go higher than 48 khz.

    Hi Rain

Many thanks for that information, mine arrives tomorrow. Really looking forward to being able to sketch songs out on my laptop when I'm away from home - which more often than not these days.

I don't know why, but the ideas always seem to be better, or maybe it's just the fact that I can't record them to hear how bad they really are when I get home ;-)

    Hi Rain

Please can you tell me the driver version you have installed? In Amplitube my lowest buffer setting is 128. How did you get 64?

    Thanks

    Hi SB,

Sorry I can't help w/ this one - I'm on a MacBook Pro. :( Though in terms of performances, you should be able to (at least) match that on a Windows machine.

Maybe PM IK Obi - he's usually quite helpful and quick to reply.
