    Hey,
The link don't work but that is not problem. I just went to the audio midi website and started to browse the "deals" section. I noticed they also have a V Studio 100 in the "Deals" section for 599.00 ?? I haven't seen the Ultra, it seems that someone bought it. I thought it a bit funny that they have the VS-100 listed under "deals" for 599...

They have some pretty good deals on some "B stock" M-Audio keyboard controllers too. The Ultra no longer being there may be why the link didn't work. Maybe this one will for the "B stock" keyboard controllers since they are still listed. http://www.audiomidi.com/Deals.aspx?&page=14

BTW, thanks for the heads-up on the Ultra. I am trying to decide between the Babyface and the Ultra. The Ultra is Waaaay cheaper and has four mic inputs instead of three on the Babyface... I wonder if the latency and mic pres are that much better on the RME. If they really are that much better I guess it would be worth it to pay the difference. Need input.

    Thanks again...

RME from what I hear is the best. I have the FTU and love it. I dont use midi but I do mic 5 man bands with it using all inputs and havent really had any probs with latency at all

I have my options down to two interfaces. The M-audio Fast Track Ultra... it looks good especially at less than half the price of the RME BF... but, the BF reviews are nothing but stellar. With the RME you can run 24/96 and get the latency down to literally nothing... I mean, this is audi recording right? Wouldn't I be stupid to save a few hundred dollars and give up sounding the best I can possibly sound? I have financial imits, I can't get anything I want but I think that if I can swing a 500 dollar interface... I can swing a 750 dollar interface.... and I won't ever be thinking, "man, I wish I had bought the RME".

I've been reading and looking at everything and everything I can find tells me that the RME Babyface is well underpriced for the quality of every one of its functions and it does everything I could want.

I'm sold on it... I am just goingthrough my usual steps of due diigence

I checked the site and I really didnt see much of a deal on anything in the deals section.  One thing I would stress is to pay attention to warranties and support. I had ordered a FTU8R from on-line that was DOA (Would come on but couldnt get it to communicate with computer).  Fortunately I got them to refund and provide return shipping on it.  MAudio requires you to buy a ticket to even get support from them.  Searching SWEETWATER, ya cant beat them for the added support and warranty they provide.  They shipped the FTU to me in 2 days, lifetime support and 2 year warranty-replacement. Cant beat it but that goes for almost all their products sold.  The RME would be my choice if I didnt want the extra inputs, Im going to the ZEDR16 Board and gonna sell the FTU-I might hold on to it just as a backup with a laptop.

The babyface is a good deal for the price, esp. if latency is your biggest concern.

The Yama Steinberg is great for FW if you need more i/os.

I've heard nothing but good things about the ZEDR16 and I like everything of A&H I've tried.

Just about every mail order place will let you return stuff, as well as stores (except mics).  Audio midi has a 30 day policy, I think.  I had to return a novation LE to get a good one - no problem.

The Babyface is great... except in one area, the headphone amp.  At 30 ohms, you are limited in the models of headphones that can be sufficiently powered.  Here's the link to the RME forum thread about it:

    http://www.rme-audio.de/f...iewtopic.php?pid=54009

I was amazed that the examples of appropriate 30 ohm headphones given in the thread all cost well over a thousand dollars!

So if you use headphones - but don't want to spend $1200 on a new set - what's the solution?  Well, you might go the other direction and find an inexpensive 30ish ohm set of phones, like the AKG 240S, which ain't exactly the best, but since your 80 ohm Beyerdynamics (or similar) ain't going to cut it...

Which then leads you to go looking at standalone headphone amps (totally defeating the purpose of "portable", but I digress)... You soon discover that the models under around $300 aren't worth it, as they are either noisy, or color the sound, or both.

    You get the idea...
