M-Audio M Track + Solved!!!

A buddy of mine bought an M-Audio M Track Plus a few months ago. It worked fine for a few months on his win 7 32 bit Acer laptop, then it began distorting after a few minutes of play. Does this with Sonar, Win Media player, Winamp or a CD. Sent it to M-Audio for repair, they said no problem found. I installed this box on my WinXP laptop and a Win 7 Pro 64 bit PC, works fine on both system.

So, anyone have any ideas where to look now? He's in the process of removing Windows updates that installed about the time the issue started. We've done the driver thing, cables, etc. Nothing has worked.

I'm stumped..... Help!!

TIA,
DaveT

Just in case anyone is following this, here's the solution:
His laptop and the M-Track fail when Malware Bytes is installed. This is odd because I use Malware Bytes on all my PCs, the M-Track works fine here.
Finally got all the software and the M-Track re-installed on the guys laptop, play back was perfect, but the M-Track wouldn't pass audio to Sonar for recording. Returned to my house, hooked it up, same problem here. Dropped it off at his house last night, he hooked it up this morning - Works Perfect!! All I can say is "beware of this box. You have been warned"!

Could you isolate the onboard pre amps? I had an m audio device in which the pre amps went bad overtime. Maybe he plugged a bad device into them? Try with and without phantom power.

StudioCat > I use Windows 10 and Sonar Platinum. I have a touch screen.
I make some videos. This one shows how to do a physical loopback on the RME UCX to get many more equalizer nodes.

    gswitz,
We're not doing any input, just playback through the USB interface. I don't see any way to disable the on board preamps. We're thinking this must be a laptop/Windows O/S issue with his PC. The M-Track worked perfect on my laptop and PC.
    Thanks for the reply,

Maybe try different USB Ports? Maybe one of the ports on the PC isn't working properly.

We've tried all three ports, direct and through powered USP hubs. Still won't work. I'm seeing some posts about IRQ sharing issues with the Fast Track. Damn, I haven't had to deal with IRQ stuff since Win95!
    Thanks,
