M-Audio USB-MIDI / WIN-7 64 Bit Drivers?

anyone have a work around for MIDI drivers? it appears M-Audio may or may not support USB on MIDI sport and UNO for Windows 7 64-bit .
there must be alternate driver somewhere on the net??? (have'nt found it yet)

M-Audio has been none too forthcoming with 64-bit drivers for their Midisport line, and I have been hammering on them to get it done.  I figure if enough people beat them up they will have to cave sooner or later.  I opened a support ticket and keep adding to it every month or so to keep it fresh.  I have a Midisport 8x8 and a Midisport 4x4 that I just can't justify replacing because of a stupid driver - geez, how hard can it be?  While they sit on their cans doing nothing, people are abandoning their Midisports and going with another vendor's product, which can't be good for M-Audio's reputation (not that it was that good to begin with).

Meanwhile, if there are alternate drivers out there, I would be interested as well.  Geez, if they would give me the 32-bit source code I could probably write a 64-bit version myself (well, maybe with a little help from Bitflipper!).

Yup. Just today, I ordered a Cakewalk USB MIDI interface because I gave up on M-Audio updating the drivers for my MidiSport.

I got rid of my M-Audio Midisport 4x4 because they have no plans to release 64 bit driver for it.  It was also my last M-Audio product.

Seems like they said something similar for Vista 64bit, way back when... and then 3 years passed.

My workaround for drivers is that I've made a trash pile because I don't want the frustration. It's really cheaper for me to replace than to waste my time. Saves on the nerves too. ( of course I understand that some can't throw 2 grand worth of equipment in a trash pile) My deal is that it's a pile of junk now not worth selling...at least I don't want my name attached to it now.

E-MU 1820- Line6 UX2 - M-Audio Axiom 61- Roland GI-20 ....pretty good trash pile. Line6 does have a driver that seems to work for some...but crashed my PC and found out that all my customer information has been deleted from their site! Purchase history, registered equipment...the only thing left is my e-mail and name...what a fantastic company. But I found out while I was there I wasn't alone. Not worth my time..bye Line6.

If I didn't need the Cakewalk UA 101 that replaced the 1820 I'd trash it. It sucks. I'm certain it will be in the trash pile very soon. ( my advice...don't use a USB audio interface)

Sorry for the long post but I figured it would make you feel better LOL.

And hey...I'm happy. Win7 64bit is great and I can record again on a better set-up...with a Cakewalk audio interface being the weakest link....for awhile.

Alright...driver for GI-20 today so one less in the trash pile.

We may have a victory here - finally!  I just saw in the M-Audio forum where just yesterday they released public beta drivers for Vista/Win 7 64-bit/32-bit for the Midisport series and other USB MIDI devices.  One forum member tried the drivers with a Midisport 2x2 interface in Win 7 64-bit and claims to be okay with it so far.  I haven't tried them myself, but I have a system with Win 7 64-bit installed that I can test with, so maybe I will give the drivers a go and see how they work.  If anyone else tries them and has any results, please let us know!

I just tried the Beta drivers with my Midisport 4x4 (non-Anniversary) and Midisport 8x8s, and they appear to work in Windows 7 64-bit with Sonar 6PE 64-bit.  I'm not sure how accurate of a test it was, because when I exited Sonar, the MIDI port setup was dumped by Sonar, but if I remember correctly this was a problem with Sonar 6.  If someone else could test the drivers with a later version of Sonar on Win 7 64-bit, that would be great.  It looks promising so far, though.

Nice to know... two months after I bought an Edirol to replace my MIDISport 8x8.  At least maybe it will raise the resale value and I can sell it if it's Windows 7 x64 ready.

Yep, thanks to M-Audio sitting on their collective butts for so long, these drivers are going to be too little/too late for a lot of people like yourself.  Lack of M-Audio drivers has hindered me from going from 32-bit to 64-bit, and so now I get to reinstall and bring both my systems into the 64-bit realm.  But, I will probably wait until they release the final versions of the drivers to do it, just to be safe.

Like Genghis said, though, maybe this will help boost the price of old Midisports a little.  At least anyone who has hung onto their Midisport can now use it, and people looking for MIDI interfaces can pick up one of the used M-Audio products out there and know that it will work (for now).

i downloaded the 64bit beta the day it came out for my midisport 4x4 and made the jump to win7 64 and sonar8.5.3 64 and the drivers work like a charm, better than the vista 32 bit drivers.  maudio did wait way too long to release, but at least they do work now.  I should have bought a 8x8 a month ago when people were giving them away. Thanks, george4th! I'm curious, does your 4x4 show up under "safely remove hardware"? Mine doesn't. I don't know if it means anything, back in the XP days I sometimes had to unplug the MIDIsport without the "safely remove" to get SONARPDR.EXE to quit.
I guess it makes me think more now because of all that stuff in the disclaimer on the download page about "damages".

Don't waste your time waiting for MIDISport drivers.

I purchased a USB MIDISport 8x8/S back in the Windows 2000 days and waited years - yes, YEARS - for Windows XP drivers that never really came.  That is, they came, but never worked properly, neither for the USB nor serial ports.  It wasn't until I dumped the MIDISport for a MOTU MIDI Timepiece AV that I realized just how kludgy the MIDISport drivers really were.  Once uninstalled from my DAW, Sonar's latency and reliability improved dramatically - it was like having a brand new computer.  The real disappointment is that I used this DAW for years, never knowing how crippled it was by those gosh-awful MIDI drivers.

In my humble opinion, Microsoft deserves some blame too, for perpetuating this upgrade merry-go-round.  In a perfect world, OS upgrades would only be introduced when the benefits outweighed the negatives.  Or, better still, the new OS wouldn't automatically require new drivers for your outboard gear.  Backwards compatibility; gosh, what a concept.

My advice?  Run - don't walk - run from any MIDISport interface.
