MAutoDynamicEQ
Check out this new dynamic EQ from meldaproductions. You can download a fully-functional 14-day demo. The melda stuff is normally too pricey for my limited budget, but this one's on sale (half-price) for the next 2 weeks for $68. There is also a similar sibling product with fewer features for only $27. It'll take me a few days before I can reach a final verdict because the plugin's surprisingly deep (and therefore perhaps not the greatest choice for novices). But after one day's experimentation it's registering pretty high on the awesomeness index.

Lots of bells & whistles on this, almost too many. I can't get this to duck (drum vs bass drum fix) With the bass routed to either the bass out/ send out to kick sc eq in I can't get the signal to output. I can see the bass analyzer waveform & triggering but no sound. If you did please tell me how you routed or set it. thanks EDIT: I got it work when the bass is routed to the eq placed on a stereo buss but not routed to the kick (mono) channel.

I just demo'd this on a bass track and didn't get any sound at first until I went into settings and chose mono in the middle of the options where it goes through lt/rt, mono, left, right only etc. Not sure if this is your problem, but it took me a little bit to figure out. I like this plug and bought the cheaper one. It's gonna take some messing with and then some to get the most out of it.

Something else I've noticed, after I deleted an instance of it (& rebooting) it it's still listed as a choice for chaining using 'reassign send'. Never noticed this before.. appreciate the help. -c

Rbh Incredible feature set.....how's the sound? I don't think you can beat that for the money. I'd definitely check out the demo. It has nice sounding filters, many features, flexible & inexpensive. The compression feature can be easily overused & ruin a mix if not careful but I think once you get a handle on how it operates you'll get alot of use out of this eq. I'm still digging into it myself & getting some nice results on tracks.

I ended up buying the cheaper of the two, on the presumption that I'd probably never use the spectrum-matching or complementary curve features. I am now into my third day with it, and it's surprisingly deep. One might even make a case that it has too many options, making it difficult to just drop onto a track and go. It requires an investment of time and effort in order to learn how to use it, and even then it may never become your go-to EQ because other equalizers are quicker, simpler and easier - and lighter on the CPU. Despite minor misgivings, I am very happy to have added MDynEQ to my toolkit. I have several other dynamic equalizers, but none are as full-featured and effective as this one. The $27/$68 price is only good for 10 more days, so you might want to snag a copy now, even if you don't have time to dig into it right away.

AFAIK, HEQ is not a dynamic equalizer.

I'm guessing one of the others is GlissEQ. If so, what's your assessment on the relative merits of GlissEQ vs MDynEQ?

GlissEQ is often described as a dynamic EQ, but that's not quite true in the conventional definition of the term. What GlissEQ does is let transients through unfiltered, so it's "dynamic" insofar as the EQ effect is self-modifying based on what's coming in. Sometimes, it's a very nice effect. MDynEQ can do the same thing, but not as conveniently. What you can't do with GlissEQ is say "I want the 200Hz component lowered if it to goes over X db, otherwise leave it alone". With MDynEQ you can.

OK, here's another tip of the day. If you're a cheapskate and a Kontakt user, you probably love picking up good Kontakt freebies, and here's a good one: Theodor Krueger's electric guitar library. I found out about this one on a kvr thread (thread contains direct links to rar files). It's an excellent library (goes good with Shred) and he even supplies a SONAR demo project so you can have fun with the lib right out of the gate. It's a mere 31MB download. While poking around Theodor's site I found his BellSynth synthesizer. Listen to the demos, it sounds good. Very Tomita-ish bell-like tones.
