MC 3 Hanging

Hi, I have an old Music Creator 3 that I bought way back in 2006. It's been working fine and I've been using it to make music until two days ago when it began to hang. I'd play a track but whenever i pressed the spacebar and stopped it, the positional bar that runs as the audio plays refuses to return to the start. Instead, MC 3 hangs up and the only way to handle it is to shut down the program. I at first thought it was the operating system. But I've even done a diagnostic test of my Windows XP and it's ok. I then uninstalled MC3 and re-installed it. It still hangs. Three questions: 1. Is this usual with Music Creator? 2. What would cause this? 3. Does Cakewalk have a remote diagnostic way by which it could scan my MC3 and provide a fix?

There is an option in it somewhere that controls the position indicator. It defaults to "return to start" but that is changeable to "start from last stop". I leave mine at return to start, and when I need a new start place, I simply click the time line and the pointer moves to that point and it becomes my new start point.

I'm not familiar with the versions of MC 3 and back....

It sounds like you're saying that your version is hanging up... and will not start again w/o a program restart.  Can you click on the PLAY button with the mouse to get it started?

You also say you use the spacebar to stop and start the playback. I think (I might be wrong) but I think there is an option to use or not use that ( a check box) located somewhere in the setup/options menus.

If you have those options changed, that would explain it. If it worked well previously, and suddenly started acting different, I would suspect that something was altered in the options menu.

If nothing else works...... try a system restore, to the point in the past where it was working OK. It is also possible that your computer grabbed some sort of upgrade that messed with MC3 in some way.

this, to me, sounds like a possible driver problem.  what soundcard are you using?  possibly your onboard soundcard?  did maybe windows update the drivers for it?  if so, then the system restore which guitarhacker suggested would probably fix your problem.

could you have a virus?  the last time i had a virus it mess up my MC3,  or i noticed there first because it was the program i was using the most.  if you have an anti-virus program make sure is updated and run it before you try using or reinstalling MC again.
