MC 4 playback problem

I'm having a problem with Music Creator 4.  I'm using a US-122 interface and a standard microphone to record audio (audio only, no midi).  I can record without issue, but when I go to playback the recording, it "skips", similar to how a CD would skip, rendering the material unusable.  Is this a problem with latency, or my soundcard, or what?  I tried to adjust the latency, but for some reason it wouldn't let me.  Advice?
Thanks a bunch.

Tell us a bit about the system you have. Computer, operating system.... you have the us-122 interface..... do you have the latest factory drivers? Are you using ASIO drivers in MC4?  You definitely want to use ASIO drivers... selected in Options audio...... run the wave profiler and select the 122 as the input and output for audio and midi....

It sounds like a settings issue.

I have a toshiba laptop with microsoft windows xp.  I am using ASIO drivers.  I'm not sure however whether I have the latest factory drivers for the us-122, how would I check that?

You can go to tascam.com and download the latest drivers for your system. Then you'll know which version you have.
Have you ever downloaded anything from TASCAM for the US-122? If you've never done the update thing, do it.
But your problem sounds to me like mismatched sampling rates. There should be a mixer GUI for the US-122; open it and see what the sampling rate and bit depth are.
The sampling rate and bit depth of MC is shown at the bottom of the MC screen. It's probably set at 44,100 Hz @ 16-bit, the CD standard. Both the sound card/audio interface and MC have to be set to the same values.
