    I don't have either (started with MC 2003 and have MC Pro 24, too), but I know they "simplified" MC 5 and some of the features of earlier MCs were lost, like resizing tracks, Track Manager.
    But MC 5 has Samplitube, an amp sim that (I read) is better than the amp sims that came with other versions of MC.
    Do you have both? MC 4 isn't available anymore unless you can find it laying around on a shelf somewhere, or on the internet (careful you don't get an already-registered program).
    Either will do a great job recording and editing audio and MIDI.

    other than what greg has said, why do you ask?  unless you already have MC4 you can't buy it now.

    They are both excellent DAW's.... but as was said, MC4 is no longer available.

    I have both, and tend to work more with MC4 since I am more familiar with it's layout.

    I just looked at funtane's history.
    He has both, and is working with a W7 computer.
    I think the gist if his query is which will perform best in that environment.
    Herb, are you running MC4 under W7?

    In that case, funtane, use the one you like best. You can use all the soft synths and effects in either one.

    I have both 4 & 5 on my DAW. As Greg pointed out, the plugs and VST's and synths are all interchangeable and available in either.

    Ok but when im using mc5 it will not use all the effects from mc4 but when usin mc4 i can use most of the effects from mc5! i tried to drag and drop into a folder for effects- i even did vst scan but i know i must have done something wrong! im trying to mix and master everything myself using only the mc4/5 software and i was told that the key elements were volume, panning, compression, reverb and eq but i still need guidance! tips plz

    If you add the FX in the plug in manager, it should use them all.

    When I installed MC5, it was able to see all the stuff I had in MC4.  Perhaps one reason is that I have a master folder of VST PLUGINS and all my new plugs go there...and that master folder was scanned.  New plugs still require a re-scan after install but the folder is there and once it gets scanned, the plugs and FX are visible to both.

    I was thinking that the plugs and FX that come with 5 are the same cake defaults that come with 4 so the only thing you would not see would be the 3rd party stuff and once you add & scan them in the plugin manager, you should be good to go.

    I have not had a single 3rd party plug that, once added and scanned, did not show up and work.

    let us know.
