MC4 crashing unexpectedly

Greetings from the other side of the pond,

Lately I've experienced rather frequent crashing of MC4. I receive a prompt telling me that it needs to "exit abnormally due to groove clipping (or something to that effect), would I like Sonar to recover a copy of my work?"

The program would then close and make this god awful buzzing sound.

I used to accept it as a quirk of computer recording, but it happened multiple times and it drove me insane hence the post.

I'm running 2 vsti's simultaneosly, both of which contain a ton of copy and pastes to construct beats/piano.

Could this have something to do with it, or is there a setting that I need to change somewhere? Am I asking too much of MC4 by trying to run multiple midi tracks?

Thank you very much for your help,

Richard

    Hi,

If this helps: I've not had this happen this evening and I'm not recording, only mixing.

Is it a possibility that listening to playback with record enabled could be an issue? I've never had it crash on me when laying down a track; only during playback and not every time.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Richard,
which VSTi's are you talking about specifically?  what are your computer specs?  which soundcard are you using? which operating system?

Richard....I run MC4 and have experienced that exact thing from time to time. Fortunately it doesn't happen often.

Give us the answer to the 3 questions Reece asked.

Since it doesn't happen to me often, I'm never able to recreate it. I think uit has something to do with the MC4 platform becoming unstable. It sounds like some part of the audio driver gets corrupted somehow with what is happening and it finally can't handle the load and crashes.

What I tend to do ...and you should also..... save your work often, after every big or important edit/recording. Then if it crashes...click no and let it reboot.

I also had a bunch of this stuff going on when my OS was corrupted in some areas.... it ran, but it ran poorly. Crashes were severe and often... The solution was to save all the important things (samples and projects)  to a USB hard drive, and do a reinstall of the OS from square one. Vista (and possibly W7) has a "return to factory" setting in the restore points. So I started with a clean OS and reinstalled everything. The big pain was re-registering the serial numbers but the whole process was only about a day long, and it ran like a charm after.
