MC5 & ren Vox?? I'm so confused I could cry!!!

I bought an iLok and Ren Vox today, and I have endlessly tried to open Ren Vox using my MC5 to absolutely no avail. I finally got my iLok working, got my license sorted out. Not exactly sure how I know where Rvox is or how I can pull it up. The scan VST button in MC5s plug in manager wont let me press it! I am completely new to the whole plug ins thing. I'm starting to think I'm in too deep and should consider giving up. I have just spent the last 7 hours trying to make things work to no avail. Can someone please HELP ME!!!!

Ren Vox is a vocal comp plug by Waves. My computer at present sucks balls. Quite embarrasing really. An Acer 5335, 4gb Ram 250 HD, Vista, running everything through my Line 6 UX2 using VAIO4ALL I believe. I am enquiring a pc shop tomorrow though about a Macbook pro!!!!

  • Dual-core Intel® Core™ 2 Duo P8600 processor
  • Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
  • Memory: 4GB
  • Hard drive: 320GB This is a better computer right?? I know I could probably use a bigger hard drive but for the amateur computer i am using now it seems to hold up well.

I'm sure it will not run on Snow Leopard.  it's windows based only and says so right on the box.

If you're talking about Renaisance Vox http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=183
    that's a VST vocal compressor.
You need to go to the Plug-in Manager and add the Ren Vox file location to the list of file locations for the scanner to scan. The scanner usually scans automatically unless you turned that setting off (most of us do turn it off). Once scanned, it should appear in the list of VST audio effects when you right-click in an audio track's FX (effects) bin.

And don't believe anyone who tells you Macs do audio better than PCs do audio.

you need to open the plug in manager..... from the top tool bar (Tools ...I think ) and add the new plug in to the VST list. then select RUN SCAN.

It helps to know where you installed the plug in... so I recommend installing it into it's own folder or better yet, into the VST folder in cake.

as far as a better computer, there are a lot out there.  unfortunately a lot of off the shelf laptops have high DPC latency and you can't really tell until you can install a DPC latency checker on it and run it.  that's not likely in Best Buy or buying over the internet!  so it's a gamble, but it's possible if you do have high DPC latency that you can resolve it, but not always.

however, more important than getting the fastest, highest RAM highest core computer you can afford is the soundcard.  your soundcard is much more important!  check my website for soundcard recommendations.

    DOH!!!  you already have a Line6 UX2 - that's a good soundcard!!!

Mark, don't despair, it can all work. Even your system can give decent results. Celeron processors are notorious for being slow, but you have a dual core and 4 gigs of ram, so it will do a decent track count with some tweaking.

First concentrate on getting the system running properly. Don't worry about a compressor at first. Turn off background programs like virus protection and fire walls, and record. Lay down a few tracks and see how it goes. Get familiar with the program. Before turning off the AV go to the net and download a few free midi files and load one and listen to it through the TTS synth, then add a track or two of either guitar, keyboard, or just vocals to see how the process works.

Practice mixing the song, learn to bounce or render the midi tracks to audio. use the effects that MC5 has like reverb, and dynamics, to process the music.

Now after you record a few songs, and you notice that the system is not up to the task, do some home work on a nice laptop with some more horsepower, if needed. Here is a nice deal http://www.geeks.com/deta...903-024-DT&cat=NBB using the Line 6 UX2 will give you a very powerful setup.

Power is good in a system, but understanding how to use the system is better. I record on a very old XP system with single core processor, 2 gigs of ram, and a 60 gig main drive, and a 320 gig secondary drive. I consistently get 15 solid tracks with effects and synths involved, and more if I do some bouncing or freezing of the synth tracks.

Knowledge is key, read and ask questions, but most of all dig in and learn hands on.

If you are using a Line 6 interface/card, as Beagle mentions..... scrap the Asio4all app and load up the Line 6 ASIO drivers from their website.... I think that will give you better results. ASIO drivers are the preferred drivers.....everything else is worse then them, and ASIO4all is a last resort kind of thing....

Right, but before you get the Line6 ASIO driver, you must delete, remove, obliterate and destroy all vestiges of ASIO4All from your computer or the Line6 ASIO driver won't work.
