MC5 and Line 6 UX8
Hey All, I have not been on here in awhile. Getting back into using MC5 and doing some recording. I just recently picked up a Line 6 UX8. Slightly familiar with it since I was using a UX2. I have it all up and running and am able to record and playback with MC5. What I have not been able to figure out it how to dedicate the tracks. Such as Line 1 on UX8 recording to Track 1 on MC5 and Line 2 on UX8 recording to Track 2 on MC5 and so on. Can somebody walk me through this? When I go to Input/Output on Track 1 of MC5 and Select Track Inputs, I select Track 1 of UX8. When I try to do the same for Track 2 on MC5 I am unable to select Track 2 of UX8. Could someone help me out please?

I'm not familiar with the unit BUT, that won't stop me from commenting.... I'm thinking that when you open the track input drop down, you should see 8 different option, maybe more. For example I have a Saffire 2 channel and my options include Stereo Saffire, left saffire, and right saffire. I'm guessing you should have choice of stereo and then channel 1 through 8 available. Simply select channel 1 for that track, go to the next track, select the inputs drop down and choose 2 and so forth... HOWEVER..... Music Creator 5 will only let you have 2 of the 8 inputs working at any given time... you'll need to upgrade the DAW from MC to Sonar to get all 8 inputs functional at the same time. That might be the problem if you have the first one set to stereo.... IDK for sure. But in MC you will only be able to use 2 channels total.... end of story. Upgrade to Sonar... Also: it's likely that there is also a software front end for the interface that needs to be set up as well.

Thanks guys. Thats what I was afraid of. I see the upgrade to Sonar Home Studio is like $49.00, which is not bad. Is it an actual upgrade to MC5 or a completely different program?

Its a completely different program. Great price BTW.... you can keep both on the computer and use the components and midi instruments and FX interchangeably from one to the other. I use MC5's Sound Center in MC4.

Right. Somewhere in the UX8's settings is where you set it to send either a stereo signal or 2 mono signals (if it's possible with this device). So open up it's software mixer and look around in there.

Thanks for your responses. Yeah, I did not have no luck getting 2 seperate tracks running either. I did find a helpfull video on youtube, describing what you guys are. Gotta love youtube. I will be getting Sonar to take things to the next level. Will the Sonar Home Studio be all I need to get 8 seperate tacks up and running? As I was looking through the Sonar stuff, they are several choices.

Well, first you need to find out how to send mono tracks, otherwise you'll only get 4 stereo tracks instead of 8 mono tracks. If you can afford the most expensive one... but SONAR Home Studio 7 (7 XL recommended) will enable you to record more than 2 simultaneous inputs, if you can find it. The Home Studio line is being superceded by X1. I think.
