MC6 Touch General Questions

Hey :) I'm new to this whole DAW thing as i am only 17 years old and i bought mc6 on impulse on Steam because i have been composing since i was very young. I do not have a midi controller yet (just ordered one on amazon) so i know theres still a lot i can't do. The whole DAW thing is kind of intimidating and i watched all of the quick start videos for MC6 and i still don't know how to do some things.
1- When i start up and use a pop ballad template the tracks say things like "Guitar" or "drumps or "brass". but when i try to drop in one of the pre made midi tracks it doesn't work. What are the purpose of these tracks?
2- When i go into the staff notation how do i change note values? (quarter note, half note etc)
3 if i have multiple midis in one track can i transpose just ONE of the midis.

and thats about it for now!
thanks a lot !
Mike~

I'll try but I have not seen the product.
    1. Could it be that the named tracks in templates are audio tracks? If so, they are intended to record into or drop audio loops into; Dropping MIDI loops into audio tracks will not make a sound. MIDI loops need a Simple Instrument Track or MIDI track+Audio Track and the associated softsynth to make a sound.

    2. I do not use the staff view for editing, I find the Piano Roll View easier and faster to work with. To alter the duration of a note in the PRV drag the note from either end.

    3. Select the clip then from the menu Process > Transpose or you can lasso the notes in the PRV and shift-drag them up or down the scale.

I was going to answer earlier but was hoping someone with MC6 Touch would pipe up.

Hey Mike.... welcome.... the forum can be a bit slow these days at times.....  bare with us...

The tracks are probably audio tracks... with the bass, and guitar icons on them from that template..... if you are dropping midi into them it won't work. You need a midi track to drop midi in and get it to work properly, and you need a synth assigned to it. The easiest way to get that is to INSERT A SYNTH , then be sure to select the sound you want it to play (drums, bass, piano, bagpipes, etc...) and then when you drop in some midi to it's midi track you should hear music.

changing notes in staff......  if you're dropping in new notes, you select the default with the resolution.... you choose quarter, half  whole and it defaults all notes to that value.  To change existing notes... in STAFF VIEW..... right click the note and the note property window opens for that one specific note. you can change every parameter for that note there.

multiple midis in one track..... can you transpose just one? probably not. I don't understand the question clearly. Generally, one midi track sends to one synth which handles one instrument. Some synths, such as TTS can handle 16 midi channels at a time but, that's a whole different story. In TTS yes, you can have each track set to a different key if you desire... transposed. Most synths are not poly so that is not an issue with them.

please expand on any of those issues if you need more info.
