MC6 / iPad's Garage Band

I find that Garage Band on my iPad is a great way to document those musical ideas that you get when you are away from the computer / studio.  Once in a while, the idea turns into something more, and this is where I wish Garage Band could export midi data to MC6.  The next best thing I suppose is to export as an audio file and lay it into MC6 tracks.  My question, is there any way to sync the beat of an audio file into the timing grid of MC6?  So far I've done this as trial and error, but you can imagine that time slips further off the beat the longer the song is.  It would be great if there were a way for MC6 to analyze the audio file and compute the BPM, and lock it into the time grid.  Am I asking too much?

Any thoughts?

I don't think MC6 has audio snap in it.... but generally no, audio is pretty much what you hear is what you got.

It's always best to record any audio with a click track so that you can put it on a specific BPM. then you can import the wave to MC6 and it locks in to the clock for a midi synth.... or the other way around.... so that both play at the same speed and stay in sync.

Generally, spur of the moment ideas are not recorded well, and that's really not the purpose of recording them on a portable device.... I'd take the time to work them out a bit and then record then into MC6 at a much better quality and in sync to the synths.

    But that's just me.

I think the click track would be embedded in the audio file so I couldn't mute it in a final mix.  Plus, I agree with your comment regarding the quality, etc.  It just would have been really cool to be able to export out of Garage Band and use that data.

    Oh well.

Btw, is audio snapping something that can be done in other programs?

Audio Snap describes a collection of tools in SONAR Studio/Producer, other DAWs have different names for the process.

click and metronome do not get recorded to the final mix or to any track for that matter.

Unless you specifically have a track dedicated to the click/metro sound....and accidentally leave it unmuted in the final mix down,  nope, it should not be in that final mix.
