MC6 not recognizing keyboard (laptop/computer, not musical keyboard)

First and foremost, Hi, this is my first post, and so far I'm amazed by MC6.

Anyways, in the CakewalkSoundCenter, and the SIDrumKit there is an icon in the upper right that says "give all keystrokes to plug-in". I assume when this is enabled you can play the synth with your keyboard as if it were a midi-keyboard (the icon looks like a pc keyboard). Nothing works on the the synths besides the f keys, and up/down on the drum kit.

If there is any way to remedy this I'd really appreciate it. Even something like a program for windows that will turn a computers keyboard into a midi input might help.

Thanks guys,

Evan

Hi Evan, and welcome to the forum.

but no, that's not what that icon is for.  there are some MIDI controllers which do not send "on" data to the softsynth and that icon is to capture ALL MIDI data regardless of where the controller is "routing" it.  99.9% of users will never use that icon.

in order to play MIDI from your computer keyboard, the only way I know of is to use a program like bome - go to bome.com it's about $50 for the program.  personally, I'd rather see you spend $50 on a Radio Shack keyboard with a USB MIDI cable because entering MIDI from the computer keyboard is not worth $50 IMO.  you can't do velocity and the keys are definitely not aligned like a MIDI keyboard!

usually you can find a decent keyboard with USB on it for about $100.

    thanks beagle...

I have a midi-to-usb cable, and a full size keyboard with a midi output. It's just that my buddy has the keyboard atm, and he's a real stickler for not bringing things back when I want them back lol. Thanks for the quick response man.

That's why I hate lending anything to anyone.  It never fails..... when I go against my better judgement, I always have to call them and chase them down to get my stuff back.

Believe it or not, I actually did find a way to get the vst's to recognize my laptop keyboard as a midi keyboard...

I downloaded probably 10 different programs, but 2 of them joined together works. They are loopbe, and midi-ox. Loopbe is a virtual midi driver, and midi-ox seems like its the front end (you have to change the midi input to loopbe on the track). With using the keyboard it of course only gives me a range of 2 octaves or a little less, but I have something else called Sweet Little Piano 32, that changes the layout and makes all of the keys playable so there is more range. But the SLP for some reason brings the sound down to about 1/4 of where it should be :/. Beggers can't be choosers I guess.

Just wanted to throw that out there in case someone comes along with the same question I had. I'm sorry I dont have any links, but like I said, I amassed a ton of crap trying to get this thing to work. If anyone wants the programs (they are really small) I can email them to whoever wants them.
