MC7 install error message on Windows 8

So I'm trying to install MC7 on my 64-bit Windows 8 machine, running Command Center as an administrator, and I keep getting this error message:

"Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3."

Clicking Ignore leads to an installation that won't open -- then I get an error message saying "Missing mfc120u.dll"

Can anyone help me undo this undue karma?

Thanks.

That is what I would do. Sometime this can be a problem with a virus scanner running. Sometimes it is the result of another application running which prevents installer from writing a dll which the other application is using.

Unless they've changed their policy, Steve, MC tech support is only available by email/form submission, phone support is not included with MC.

You are correct...just check the support policy...email only for MC6/7. Won't suggest it again.

Hi Lou,

I have seen this situation happen for a couple reasons one being a virus scanner running while the install is operating as Scook stated but there is another reason that could also cause this if you believe it is not related to a virus scanner.

Occasionally when we are doing testing on installers we will also run into this issue because we test many different configurations and it turns out to actually be a windows problem when a Windows Update is ready to be patched. You can rule this out by doing the following...

  • Make sure all programs are closed
  • Run windows update and and install any pending updates and restart the machine
  • Run Update again to make sure windows is not again trying to do another update
  • If more updates are available download and restart as necessary
  • Once Windows is done updating you may want to turn this off if you don't frequently restart or turn the machine fully off
  • Begin doing the MC7 install again with any virus scanners turned off
  • You should succeed through the install at this point.
Hope this helps get you installed.

I have seen this in the MC7 install.  Turned out to be that I had not run Windows Update recently.  I have gotten into the practice of running Windows Update and REBOOTING now BEFORE installing ANY software (not just Music Creator).  This seems to make a real difference.

"Unable to register the DLL/OCX: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x3."

RegSvr32 is a Windows dependency. If Windows is blocking access to this executable, you will get the above error. We can not prevent Windows from grabbing control of this file when awaiting to finish updates.

Please complete your Windows Updates, restart the computer, and try installing again.

Best Regards,
Seth
