Are you 100% sure you are using the correct midi ports for the device. Save the project once working and then re-0pen and see what happens.

I take it the mcu in always on the same usb port? IE not being unplug when not in use!!!!! make sure you have the mcu powered up before you start sonar, After that you should be sorted BTW, you should NEVER have to remove it, just reset its midi port in and out settings in sonar. To expand on what fitzj has said, each new project will require ypu to setup the MCU, unless you create a template with it all sorted and always use it as your starting point (wise choice, even without an MCU) Just remember MCU ON FIRST THEN SONAR Hope this helps

My Bcf2000 used to do this in MCU mode. I recently upgraded my computer and with a fresh win7 and X2 install, now it doesn't do that anymore. As long as the unit is on before I fire up Sonar, it connects with the correct settings. If it doesn't (rarely), I just go into the act settings and have to reselect the bcf2000 midi ports and all is good.

Thanks Guys for suggesting... Fitzj the ports are most of the times off, even in an older project with the MCU already configure, sometimes the ports are (on) in the listing but nothing happen, the MCu won't respond, I use to have a Fader port and never had any problem making it work in Xp and Win7 with the right driver and the tweek in the registry. Freex the MCU has it's own usb port directly in the PC in the back, not on a powered hub...or the front ports even if I reset the ports, it won't react !!! I have 3 basic templates that I created with the MCU configure in it, and even there, on the first session, everything is alright, it works fine ... save and close the project, next day I reopen...no more MCU ... the ports are in the listing, but no response form the unit ... very strange... I always open the MCU before Sonar mmarton I'll be upgrading the PC next month a new i7 3930K with P9X79 with 32 Gb ram, I will see then with win7 pro and a fresh X2, maybe... we cross our fingers... Thanks again, guys, anything else that comes up, feel free to feed it...

Can you post a picture of the controller after you start up with the ports enabled and it working. Loads of us using this device in windows 7 and no problems so it has to be a setup issue or a corrupted file. The mcu will it work with another DAW you could download a trial version and see what happens.

Sound like you're doing everything right, So you're saying that when you load sonar, and go into midi devices in Preferences, the MCU 1-4 usb ports are there? That in control surfaces your MCU is showing and also connected to the port MCU 1? But that sometmes it works and sometimes it doesn't? Is that correct? Do you power up the mcu before or after the PC? I'm just throwing ideas at you here.
