ME PLAYING DRUMS - 1998

Just for the fun of it I found some old practice drumming tapes and made up a three minute sample of me playing my Yamaha electronic drum set to songs at home.
I had a small mixer and ran my music and drum set into a recorder and recorded myself playing to the music .

Its bit and pieces of different styles of music I played to just a few , I gave up playing drums back in 1998 and sold my electronic set.
I hope to buy another one just like it so I can start playing my own drum patterns and fills and creating my own drum tracks in real time .
By Christmas of this year I plan on buying another one new from SweetWater, thats the plan .

Here is my sample of me before I stop playing the drums , cheers !

So why did you sell em?

Medical reasons , wife and I split up and then my father died . Guess you might say the stress of it all pushed me into selling my drums and giving up my music .
But now after getting back into my music again I feel like buying another electronic drum set so I can create my own drum tracks in real time not with software and by doing it that way it sounds natural then using software if that makes any sense.
    Cheers!

Are those electronic drums James, they sound quite realistic?  You sound like a decent drummer, so i can understand you wanting to create your drum tracks with a drum kit.

Nice drum work! You might want to try Roland next time. They have some great drum sounds. I love mine!

Hey Blipp yes it was a Yamaha Electronic set of drums for $900.00 new when I purchased them , I wanted the Rolands but that was more then I could afford at the time.
I had a small mixer and a small recorder to record with , I hooked my stereo in the mixer and my electronic drum into my mixer and then adjusted the volume on both then recorded myself playing to the music that was the sound I ended up with and thats the way I used to practice at home .

Thanks I played for eighteen years and took private drum lessons for three years off and on whenever my instructor was available  .
He was going to college to study medicine and played in clubs at night plus he was a part time manager for a local record store .
On week-ends he allowed me to sit in with his band to practice what he taught me , his band was really good they played some rock and roll 70' and 80's mostly  and alot of Jazz .
I was the only student he allowed to sit in with his band so that really made me feel good , hes now a full time doctor so hes really making money now .

Yes I wish I could afford a three thousand set of Rolands those are really nice.
About eight months ago I walked into a music store here where I lived and played on a set for about an hour really nice I wish I had that set now .

I forgot to say you have a set of Rolands , how long have you played ?
Maybe someday I can buy a nice set of Rolands , they sound great !

I bought the TD-3's a year or so ago and they were only $995. I've only been playing on and off since I got them. I am a novice, but I have fun with them and love the way they sound and how easy they are to record. I used them on my new CD.

Just woke up after a four hour nap , only had four hours sleep yesterday .
Anyway I might have to check that out in a few months , I'm looking at Dec or Jan of next year when I might be able to buy another set of electronic drums , I need to fly my wife over to Nashville, TN to spend time with her new grandchild and daughter on her birthday my gift to her.  Thats going to cost me cose to what I might fork out on another electronic drum set , flying plus extras aren't cheap now days .
Sounds like your having fun with them , recording your own drum tracks with a real drum set is much better then using software its more natural in sound as long as you can keep a good even groove going and stay in time with the music your playing to .
I'll have to check your music out , keep the beat going .

    Cheers!

Good luck and when you're ready, and if you don't need a large kit, look into the new TD-4's. They replaced the TD-3's and are the same price; $995. I am planning to add a third cymbal to my kit sometime this winter for another $175. Have fun in Nashville. If you want to check my music out, you can click on the link below and hear up to ten tunes. I'll have to warn you, there is a fiddle involved.    All the wood block, shaker, cowbell sounds, etc. were from the TD-3's.  My Tunes

Similar kind of story to mine James.  I completely gave up pretty much anything to do with music for 10 years after I left working in a studio.  I sold my drums except for one splash cymbal that had been signed by my band members, ditched my Atari 1040, C-Lab Notator (yay!), Akai 1100 sampler, and even threw away a couple of gold discs I'd earned along the way.  I'm also going through the big 'D' right now so am taking refuge within Sonar.

btw - what's the viola/violin patch your using in your 'Fresh Air' track from? It has some quite nice bowing dynamics.

Sounds good I went online to SweetWater and checked out all their electronic drum sets and saw the one your talking about close to a thousand dollars , pretty nice I might go for that one Dec of this year of by Jan of next year .
For now I do have all my music books and a nice drum pad I used to practice on when I wasn't playing on my drum set so I might start working out with that to get my hands back in shape while I'm waiting for time to fly by .

About a year ago I walked into our local music store and messed around with their Roland sets for about an hour and that was cool ,after nine years of not playing at all I was wondering if I still had it in me.
I was surprise I still had a good groove going and even had a few people who stopped to listen so that pumped me up alittle bit , after that I really wanted to get back into it again but no money .

I'll checkout your music in a bit after I get back from the local postal office, they confirmed last night my QY-300 was shipped out and was on its way to me so now I need to see if they will hold my package at the postal station so it doesn't go out on a truck , that way I won't have to wait for the post man to show up I can just show up at the post office building at 8:00 am when the pickup office opens .

I would have to buy another electronic set and a good kick pedal for another $150.00 maybe less but I'm sure they are not cheap now not the good kick pedals .

Thats not a bad deal if it was a decent model made by Tama , my third Acoustic drum set was a black TAMA set and then I switch over to a SONAR set and finally ended up with a Yamaha set acoustic and electronic .
I'll most likely buy new when I get there , see what happens in the next three or four months .
Maybe I'll get lucky and win the lotto , that would be nice wouldn't it then I could buy a studio or a music store full of nice drum sets , keyboards , guitars , Pianos .
